Itinerary : 7 days Morocco itinerary from Marrakech
Day 1: Marrakech - Atlas Mountains - Ait ben Haddou Kasbah - Ouarzazate.
Begin your 7 days Morocco itinerary from Marrakech journey with an 8:30 AM departure from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, crossing the majestic High Atlas Mountains. After passing through the Tizi n’Tichka, the highest pass in North Africa at 2260 meters, you’ll veer off the main route to visit the Kasbah Telouet, once home to the powerful Glaoui family, known as the Lords of the Atlas.
Although you cannot enter any of the three main buildings due to their dilapidated state, the exterior is still worth exploring with a local guide, despite the earthquake damage in September 2023. You'll delve into the rich history of the Kasbah from outside.
Continue along the scenic Ounila Valley, with its winding roads, colorful rock formations, Berber villages, and gardens. Toward the end of this road, you'll arrive at Kasbah Ait ben Haddou, where you'll stop for a delicious lunch. Afterward, you can visit this UNESCO World Heritage site, famous as a backdrop for numerous Hollywood films.
Later, drive for about an hour to Ouarzazate, where you’ll spend the night in a guesthouse.
Day 2: Ouarzazate - Roses valley and Dades - Todra gorges - Erfoud - Merzouga - Berber Camp
After breakfast, early in the morning, we will pass through the palm grove of Skoura and the Valley of Roses, where we will continue our route through a road surrounded by small Berber villages and authentic and historical Kasbahs, all unique and different from each other.
After several photo stops, we will arrive at one of the highlights of the South: the Todra Gorge. The Todra River has formed a gorge with vertical walls of enormous proportions and great beauty; it is a climber's paradise and a place of unique natural beauty. We will make a relaxing stop for lunch and continue our journey towards the most magical and desired point of our 7 days Morocco itinerary from Marrakech of Merzouga Erg Chebbi: the impressive dunes of Merzouga.
Once we arrive at the lodge, we will have a hospitality tea while we get some rest. We will leave our luggage and things we will not be using in the desert at the lodge and set off in a camel caravan that will take us to the desert camp in the middle of the dunes for about an hour. We will make stops along the way to watch the majestic sunset over the Sahara sand. It is here that the dunes take on a reddish colour due to the play of light and shadow of the sun's rays on top of them, a magical spectacle that you won't be able to stop photographing. Once at the camp, we will be welcomed with a hospitality tea and before dinner, we will have free time to stretch our legs and enjoy the relaxation and silence of the dunes.
Afterwards, we will have dinner as a group, under a blanket of stars, in the immense silence of the Sahara dunes. A dinner prepared with authentic Moroccan products. After dinner, under the stars, the Berber party, live music with Berber drums and songs, and if you dare, you can participate by playing the drums yourself. We will have the opportunity to climb the dunes near the camp to discover shooting stars, make wishes and, together with the Berbers, listen to traditional Berber tales. We will spend the night in the middle of the Sahara desert, in the camp (tents in the dunes).
Day 3: Merzouga
After breakfast, take a camel ride or walk alongside the camels carrying your lunch supplies, prepared out in the dunes by your guide. Enjoy a morning walk of about three hours, followed by another three-hour trek in the afternoon, returning to camp for dinner and the night.
Alternatively, you can explore the desert area further. Visit the village of Khamlia, home to the Gnawa people, known for their unique music brought from sub-Saharan Africa. Experience a live performance of Gnawa music.
Next, visit the old city of Rissani, the foundation of Morocco's current royal family. Explore the large souk, held three times a week, where you can find spices, vegetables, and traditional crafts. Rissani was once the meeting place for salt caravans from Timbuktu.
In the afternoon, take a camel ride through the Erg Chebbi dunes at sunset, followed by another evening of dinner, music, and drumming around a campfire.
Please note that from May to September, trekking in the dunes may be advised against due to extreme heat. An alternative plan may be offered during this period.
Day 4: Merzouga - Fes
Rise early to witness a breathtaking desert sunrise, then take some time to explore the dunes and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.
After breakfast, depart for Rissani and Erfoud, stopping to see how locally found fossils are crafted into furniture and other items. The sheer number and beauty of these fossils are awe-inspiring, but there’s no obligation to purchase anything.
Continue north to Er Rachidia and the Ziz Valley, renowned for its vast palm groves and prolific date production. Enjoy lunch in Midelt, known as the “apple capital” of Morocco, located at the foot of the Ayachi Mountain. This town is a commercial center for agriculture and mining, producing minerals like fluorite and quartz.
Cross the Tizi-n-Talremt pass, also known as the “she-camel” pass, and reach Azrou, where you can spot Barbary apes in the cedar forests.
Arrive in Fes in the late afternoon and spend the night in a charming riad in the heart of the medina.
Day 5: Fes Sightseeing
Enjoy a full day exploring Fes, the oldest of Morocco’s Imperial Cities. Visit the University of Al Kairaouine, founded in 859 by Fatima al Fihri, and the medieval city of Fes El Bali, home to the exotic Bou Inania Medersa, the Medina, and the Kairaouine Mosque. In the afternoon, explore Fes El Jdid and the Museum of Moroccan Arts. Spend the night in a riad.

Arrive in Rabat, where you’ll visit the Hassan Tower, an iconic symbol of the city, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, where the former king and his son, Hassan II, are entombed.
Spend the night in a beautiful riad in Rabat.

After breakfast, visit the Chellah, an ancient necropolis with Roman and medieval ruins. Then explore the Oudaya Kasbah, a twelfth-century fortified citadel with a rich military history.
Drive to Casablanca and visit the stunning Hassan II Mosque, the largest in Africa, known for its intricate tile work and architecture. Be prepared to queue for tickets, as guided tours are offered every hour.
