Itinerary : 4 days Desert Trip from Rabat to Marrakech
Day 1: Rabat - Meknes - Fez
Our driver will pick you up from your hotel to start our short 4 days Desert Trip from Rabat to Marrakech trip, our first stop will be Meknes or Meknès in French, which is a city located in northern Morocco at the foot of the Middle Atlas. It is the capital of the region of Meknes-Tafilalet, constituting one of the four imperial cities of Morocco. Since 1996, Unesco has included Meknes as a World Heritage Site.
Next we will transfer you to one of the most important and authentic place in Morocco, Fes, one of the four imperial cities along with Marrakech, Meknes and Rabat. Fez, one of the largest walled cities in the world, is located in the interior, is the second most touristic city in Morocco, only below Marrakech. It is also the oldest of the imperial cities and the current religious capital of the country.
Walking through the medina we can see parading stores and trades that, in the vast majority of the rest of the world, have disappeared: potters, goldsmiths, weavers .... We explore the narrow streets full of stores, fresh fruit, lots of spices, Berber carpets, leather, and many other objects of Moroccan craftsmanship. A visit to the King's Palace, tanneries and potters are just some of the places you will experience.
Accommodation in a Riad in the old medina of Fes with breakfast included.
Day 2: Fez - Ifrane - Midelt - Ziz Valley - Erfoud - Camel trek and night in camp
Our second day of our 4 days Desert Trip from Rabat to Marrakech start around 8am, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Fez and start our the trip by heading to Ifrane, a town known as the Switzerland of Morocco because of its typically Swiss buildings. Then we will head to the thousand-year-old cedar forest of Azrou, where we will stop to enjoy the landscape and have the opportunity to see the monkeys that live in freedom in this area.
A visit to this area is very pleasant. Then we will continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains until we reach the city of Midelt, where we will have a break for lunch. We will continue through the Ziz valley and its gorges to Errachi-day, passing the town of Erfoud, famous for its fossil production. In the afternoon we will reach the desert of Merzouga, where we will mount our camels to sleep in the Berber camp in the middle of the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Dinner under the stars, Berber music show with drums and overnight stay in the camp.
DAY 3: MERZOUGA - RISSANI – NEKOB - DRAA VALLEY - OUARZAZATE
It will be a remise not to rise with the sun as it begins its glorious route for another day. If you wake up at first light, take a seat on the sand dunes and watch the sunrise slowly and hang in the dusty summer skies for a moment or two. We will return to a local hotel, where a welcome hot shower and breakfast awaits. then leave for Rissani (once Sijilmassa) – the foundation of the Alaouite dynasty, the current ruling family. With most of the women veiled, and men hooded, this is a very traditional Moroccan town. We’ll continue driving towards Ouarzazate via Alnif, Tazarine, Nkob, and Agdez. We will enjoy the sightseeing of the fascinating Draa Valley which has hundreds of Berber Kasbahs and with its millions of palm trees. then we continue our way to Ouarzazate, “the Hollywood of Africa” the town has one of the biggest studios, the homes of the wealthy and powerful, has been the backdrop to many Hollywood blockbusters and major historical television programs, including Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. If you are a fan of A Game of Thrones you will recognize it.
DAY 4: OUARZAZATE – THE HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS - MARRAKECH
After breakfast in the hotel, we can visit Taourirt Kasbah. This former Glaoui residence, situated on the edge of the town, is considered to be one of the most beautiful kasbahs of Morocco. After that, we will drive outside the town to enjoy a private visit of the Atlas Corporation Studio, a well –known cinematographic center renowned for blockbuster productions including Asterix and Cleopatra directed by Alain Chabat; and the Oscar-winning Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott. Thanks to its amazing landscapes, good infrastructures, friendly people and cheap authorizations.
Then we start our way back to Marrakech across the Atlas Mountains. The winding roads, changing scenery, colorful valleys, shepherds with their flocks, Berber villages high up on the hillsides, make this a picturesque drive. And when we get to Tizi’n Tichka Pass, we’ll be at the highest point in the Atlas Mountains. We can stop for photos and to breathe in some fresh mountain air. Arriving at Marrakech where we will drop you off at your hotel where your 4 days Desert Trip from Rabat to Marrakech tour ends.
We hope you enjoyed the tour with our team!.
