Itinerary : 9 days Morocco Tour from Tangier to Marrakech & Sahara Desert
Day 1 : Tangier - Tetouan - Chefchaouen
Go on an exciting 9 days Morocco Tour from Tangier to Marrakech & Sahara Desert as we pick you up from your hotel/airport/port in Tangier. Our first destination is Chefchaouen, but before we reach there, we'll visit Tetouan, famously known as "The White Dove" due to the beautiful whitewashed buildings that dominate its streets.
In Tetouan, we'll explore the main attractions, including the Moullay El Mehdi Square, the Spanish Ensanche, the Jewish Quarter, and the magnificent Hassan II Square, home to the Royal Palace. Afterward, we'll drive to the iconic city of Chefchaouen, where the vibrant blue hues of the Medina will captivate you. You'll have free time to wander through the enchanting streets before we walk together from the main square to our accommodation located near the Hammam.
Day 2: Chefchaouen - Volubilis - Fez
This day we say goodbye to Chefchaouen and head south to Volubilis, the most important and extensive remains of a Roman city in Morocco, and one of the most far-flung domains of the Empire, thanks to the powerful Berber tribes that proved to be more than a match for the conquering legionaries. Once, these Roman ruins were one of the most important grain producing regions to feed the voracious Roman appetite, and wild animals to keep the crowds entertained as they tried to devour gladiators in the arena.
This thriving provincial city was home to some 200,000 inhabitants at the height of its glory. The city's importance is reflected in the Capitoline temple, the Basilica, said to be one of the most beautiful in Africa in its day, and its 1,300 square meter Forum, with sumptuous mosaics that can still be seen in some of the more luxurious houses.
We end the day in one of Morocco's four imperial cities, Fes, where you will prepare for the next morning's fascinating tour of this enchanting medieval city.
Overnight in riad with breakfast.
Day 3: Guided tour of Fez
This is your chance to see the Medina of Fez through the eyes of an official local guide. The immense medina (the largest in the city of Fez and in fact the largest in the world) has preserved its medieval structures and is considered the largest pedestrian area in the world. It was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1981.
The tour lasts almost a whole day with a break for lunch. Before leaving in the morning, you can talk to your guide about the visits you would like to make. If you have never visited Fez before, we recommend that you read our Fes travel guide, which will not only give you a fascinating insight into this city, but will also help you decide which sites you would like to experience with the help of your guide. It will truly be worth it to put yourself in his hands and allow him to show you the mysteries and secrets of the nine thousand streets and alleys that make up this incredible historical city.
Overnight in riad with breakfast.
Day 4: Fez - Ifrane - Midelt - Merzouga - Desert.
At 8 am after breakfast, we will head to the desert of Merzouga crossing the Middle Atlas, a mountain range that extends 350 kilometers from southwest to northwest of the country. On the route, we will pass through villages such as Ifrane, known as the “Moroccan Switzerland” for the architecture of its houses, and Azrou, an important Berber town in the interior of the Middle Atlas, known for the cedar forests that surround the city and the native monkeys that inhabit it. We will cross the Valley and the Ziz Gorges and pass through villages like Midelt or Erfoud. From Erfoud we will take a desert dirt road that will take us to Merzouga. We will spend the night in a hotel next to the entrance of the desert.
Overnight in hotel with dinner and breakfast.
Day 5: Sahara Desert
Today you will experience one of the most memorable days of your 9 days Morocco Tour as you enter the dunes of the Erg Chebbi region of Morocco's Sahara Desert. You will have this morning to relax or explore Rissani before preparing for a memorable night under the stars. Before sunset we will head to the lodge to get on the back of our camels and start the pleasant ride into the Sahara dunes. The camel ride is about an hour, and runs along the tops of the dunes at sunset so you will live a magical experience watching as the sun's rays are hidden under the golden dunes, you will take unforgettable memories in the form of photographs as one of the most magical moments to remember in your life. This ride takes you to your camp, with nomadic Berber style tents and thick Moroccan carpets to keep the sand between your toes.
After a welcome tea, you will enjoy a magical evening, enjoying a candlelit dinner of exquisite Moroccan dishes under the stars. After dinner, we will enjoy the music show offered by the boys of the desert, to the rhythm of Berber songs and drums under the twinkling stars and the immensity of the silence of the desert.
Overnight in a Berber Camp with dinner and breakfast.
Day 6: Desert - Todra Gorges - Valley of roses - Ouarzazate
We will wake up early to see, if you wish, the spectacle of sunrise in the dunes and return back to the lodge on camels. After a freshly made Berber breakfast and a shower at the camp, we start today's day passing through the village of Rissani, ancient Sijilmassa, supply center of the ancient caravans coming from the Sahara. Continuing the journey through a semi-desert landscape, we reach the oasis of Tinghir, possibly one of the most beautiful natural sites in Morocco. Going up the Todra River, we will arrive at its impressive Gorges of more than 300m high, and after a brief visit to the village, we will take the route of the Thousand Kasbahs, to reach the Dades River Gorges, where over time, the river has eroded the rocks, to form a landscape of incredible beauty partivular. We will arrive to Ouarzazate, one of the most important cities in southern Morocco, called the gateway to the desert and known for its intense film activity, having to his credit with films as renowned as Gladiator, Troy, The Mummy etc..

Day 7: Ouarzazate - Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou - Telouet - High Atlas - Marrakech
Today's most unforgettable memory will be your visit to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which, in addition to being the best existing example in the area of a walled city protected by Kasbahs, the homes of the rich and powerful, has been the backdrop for many Hollywood blockbusters and major historical TV shows, including Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. If you're a Game of Thrones fan, you'll recognize Ait Ben Haddou from the final scene of the third series (various settings around Morocco have been used in the series).
From Ait Ben Haddou, we will continue on to the less visited (and possibly more impressive) area of Telouet. Here, you can stroll through the ancient palace of the Glaoui family and even enjoy lunch with flavors of the High Atlas. The last stage of today's trip is over the High Atlas Mountains on the impressive zig-zag of the Tiz n Tichka pass, the highest mountain pass in Morocco, its highest point being the Jbel Toubkal at 4167 meters, visible from even the city of Marrakech. This route of the High Atlas will take us to Marrakech, if we arrive in time, you will have time to explore the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa square.
