Telouet Kasbah, High Atlas, Morocco

In the valley of Ounila, is the Kasbah of El Glaoui, popularly known as the Kasbah Telouet, was undoubtedly the most prominent and luxurious Kasbah of the Glaoui, as it was the habitual residence of the pasha, the last lord of the Atlas, and as you can imagine, lived surrounded by lust and lavishness. Telouet is a set of mountains with snowy peaks, valleys and plateaus.

Telouet Kasbah

Telouet shelters their residence, a splendid kasbah built in the 19th century. A citadel symbol of strength and prestige that combines both a lordly residence and a military command post for the control of the caravan trail and the entire region.

The kasbah of Telouet was an impressive ensemble: fortress, castle and caravanserai. This fascinating jewel combines the typical Amazigh architecture and the more oriental style, Hispano-Moorish, which testifies to the image of grandeur that the former masters wanted to display to the world. The beautifully decorated walls, the ceilings decorated with rich drawings and motifs show the luxury in which the Glaoua, owners of the kasbah abandoned since 1956, lived.

The kasbah of Telouet succumbs today to the vagaries of climate and oblivion. Only the main residence and its few annexes remain, still well preserved, to welcome the curious eyes of visitors, revealing to them the finesse of the craftsmen, the refinement of the former masters and the way of life of the inhabitants who had lived there.
