Itinerary : 4 days Imperial Cities Tour from Tangier
Day 1: Tangier - Exploring Rabat with a Guide
Upon your arrival in Tangier, whether by ferry or plane, our driver will meet you at the port or airport. We will begin our journey to Rabat, a city situated on the northwest coast of Morocco, facing the Atlantic Ocean. With a population of over half a million people, Rabat is currently the capital of Morocco. It boasts a blend of domes, minarets, wide avenues, and green spaces.
As we make our way to Rabat, we'll pass through Larache, a charming port city located on the Atlantic coast. This town, reminiscent of Andalusian villages, blends with Arab culture and is approximately 86 km away from Tangier. It originally served as an Islamic fortress (known as Ribat) to protect the city of Sala Colonia and the mouth of the Bou Regreg River. Despite a tumultuous history of decline and resurgence, Larache has developed a distinctive urban structure.
Upon reaching Rabat, we have a guided tour planned to explore the city's major attractions. We'll visit the picturesque Kasbah Oudaia, the Medina with its bustling souks, and the Almohad walls that enclose the city. Additionally, we'll see the Customs Wall from the 17th century, the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the Chella Necropolis. The Chella Necropolis is a fascinating site where Roman and Islamic ruins coexist, whispering stories of centuries past. In the evening, we'll transfer you to your hotel for a comfortable overnight stay with breakfast included.
Day 2: Rabat - Volubilis - Fez
After breakfast, we'll depart from Rabat towards Meknes, the second imperial city. Upon arrival, we'll take a panoramic tour of Meknes, where you can admire the city's 40 kilometers of walls. The tour culminates at the grand Bab Al Mansour gate, an iconic entryway and one of Morocco's most famous spots for capturing memorable photos.
Next, we'll continue to the sacred city of Molay Idriss, a charming town where you'll have some time to rest before we visit the Roman ruins of Volubilis. This historical site, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is truly impressive. After exploring Volubilis, we'll drive to Fez, the bustling city, where you'll spend the night at a hotel with breakfast included.
Day 3: Fez - Discovering the Medina with a Guide
Fez, one of the largest walled cities globally, is situated in the heart of Morocco and is the country's second most popular tourist destination after Marrakech. It also holds the distinction of being the oldest of the imperial cities and the current religious capital of Morocco.
After breakfast, we'll embark on a guided tour of the medina, Fez's historic quarter. This medina, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will transport you to another era as you navigate its labyrinthine streets, dodging the hustle and bustle of donkeys and motorcycles used for transporting goods.
The medina can be divided into three main areas: the inner walls, which house both the first medina (Fez el-Bali) and the second medina (Fez el-Jdid), as well as the French zone known as Ville Nouvelle.
While strolling through the medina, you'll encounter various traditional crafts and shops that have stood the test of time. From potters and goldsmiths to weavers, you'll witness the vibrant heritage of Moroccan craftsmanship. The narrow streets are filled with an array of stores offering fresh fruit, aromatic spices, Berber carpets, leather goods, and other local handicrafts. Along the way, we'll visit the King's Palace, the tanneries, and the pottery workshops. For lunch, you'll have the option to dine at a traditional restaurant nestled in the heart of the medina. After lunch, we'll continue the excursion and return to the hotel in the evening for a comfortable overnight stay with breakfast included.
Day 4: Fez - Chefchaouen - Tangier
After breakfast, we'll depart for Tangier, passing through scenic farmlands and quaint villages before reaching the breathtaking Rif Mountains. En route, we'll make a stop in the enchanting blue city of Chefchaouen, nestled between the Ech-Chaoua mountains. The city's name is derived from the abundant presence of blue hues in its architecture.
As you explore Chefchaouen's narrow streets, small squares, ornate fountains, and elaborately decorated doors, you'll be captivated by its unique charm. Whether you're a photography enthusiast or not, you won't be able to resist capturing memories of the city's mesmerizing blue corners. You'll have free time to enjoy a delightful lunch at one of the traditional restaurants with panoramic views of the Ech-Chaoua mountains.
In the afternoon, we'll reach Tangier, where our services will come to an end. We'll transfer you to the port or airport, concluding our memorable 4 days Imperial Cities Tour from Tangier together.
