DAY 1: MARRAKECH – HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS – AIT BEN HADDOU – OUARZAZATE
The initial departure for this 3 days Marrakech to Fes desert tour is scheduled from your hotel or riad at 08:30. Upon traversing the Tichka pass in the High Atlas mountains, one departs off the primary thoroughfare and proceeds along a secondary route to the Telouet Kasbah. This Kasbah served as the stronghold of the Glaoui family, the overseers of the High Atlas region. It comprises three principal structures, two of which are currently in ruins. The wind and rain have left discernible marks following the palace’s abandonment.
Unfortunately, the entire Kasbah is currently closed due to the damage inflicted by the earthquake in Morocco in September 2023. It is beneficial to explore the exterior with a local guide to gain insight into its intriguing history.
The tour proceeds via the picturesque and serpentine Ounila Valley, where unexpected variations in rock and soil hues are anticipated. This is the most renowned of the several Kasbahs in Morocco and is one of the nine UNESCO World Heritage sites in the country.
The route traverses Ouarzazate and on to the Skoura Oasis, where olives, almonds, lucerne, barley, and fruit trees are cultivated. You will visit the renowned Kasbah Amredhil, which has been exquisitely renovated. It is renowned globally as it was illustrated on the former 50-dirham banknote. The route traverses Kela’a M’gouna, the Valley of roses, with a pause to observe locally-produced cosmetic products derived from the valley’s plentiful flowers. You halt in the Dades Valley at a guesthouse.

The Todra gorges exhibit significant differences, characterized by greater elevation and enhanced accessibility. Proceed through the Ziz Valley, passing the village of Erfoud, renowned for its fossil discoveries.
In the afternoon, you may enjoy on a camel ride to your Desert camp, where you will be welcomed with tea and biscuits. From this location, one can ascend the nearby elevated dunes, where the sunset presents a magnificent spectacle over an extended duration.
You will have dinner and spend the night at an opulent camp featuring a private bathroomand elegant Moroccan furnishings, all intended to evoke tranquility and relaxation.

Lunch is at Midelt, known as “the apple capital,” situated in the Middle Atlas Mountains at the base of Ayachi Mountain. We traverse the Tizi-n-Talremt pass and arrive in Azrou, where Barbary apes can be observed in the cedar woodlands foraging for morsels.
